Läckerle — "little treat" in Alsatian — is a firm, fragrant gingerbread once made for Christmas, in Basel as in Alsace, long before icing sugar and dark chocolate became commonplace. Biscuits Cui keeps the original recipe — honey, spices, candied orange — and gives it the shape of a cat, one paw outstretched to perch on the rim of a cup. Honey, gingerbread spices, wheat flour, chocolate, walnuts and candied orange: a dry, firm, fragrant biscuit, hand-glazed and hand-piped.
